Oil pan gasket replacement
Depending on the design, the sump is sealed with a gasket or sealant.
Symptoms
- Oil drops on the pavement under the engine, a wet oil pan on inspection.
What's included
- A leak here is readily visible: oil drops on the ground beneath the engine and a wet sump on inspection. Causes include ageing seals, a flange distorted during a previous repair or impact damage to the sump. We remove it, thoroughly clean old sealant from both mating faces, assess flange geometry and straighten it if needed. Assembly follows the tightening torque and sequence: overtightened bolts distort a pressed-steel sump and create a new leak. We also inspect the oil pickup.
Additional checks
- Cleaning old sealant from both mating faces
- Assessing flange geometry and straightening it if needed
- Inspecting the oil pickup
Why it matters
A warped flange from a previous poor repair can be the cause, not just gasket aging. Overtightened bolts deform a stamped-steel pan and create a fresh leak.
More details
The oil pan is sealed with a gasket or sealant depending on the design. A leak here is noticeable right away — oil drops on the asphalt under the engine and a wet pan on inspection. Causes include aging of the seal, flange deformation after a botched previous repair, or pan damage from hitting an obstacle. We remove the pan, thoroughly clean both surfaces of old sealant, and assess the flange geometry, straightening it if needed. Assembly follows the correct torque and tightening sequence — overtightened bolts warp a stamped-steel pan and create a new leak. At the same time we inspect the condition of the oil pickup.
