Symptoms

  • Whining from the tank, hard starting, hesitation under load, the engine stalling while driving.

What's included

  1. Wear signs include humming from the tank, difficult starting, hesitation under load, jerks uphill and the engine stopping while driving. We always measure pressure before replacement: a clogged filter, faulty relay or poor ground connection can cause the same symptoms, so replacing an expensive pump without measurements makes no sense. During replacement, we remove deposits from the tank and inspect the strainer: tank dirt usually causes the failure, and without this step it will recur. After installation, we check pressure in different operating modes and ensure the connections are leak-free.

Additional checks

  • Fuel pump strainer in the tank — inspected for clogging
  • Pressure in different modes — checked after fitting the new pump
  • Connection leak-tightness — checked after installation

Why it matters

The same symptoms come from a clogged filter, a bad relay, or a poor ground, so pressure is measured before replacing the expensive pump. Dirt in the tank is usually what wears out the pump, so the tank is cleaned at the same time.

More details

The fuel pump delivers fuel to the rail at the required pressure. Signs of wear include a hum from the tank area, hard starting, hesitation under load, jerking on hills, and the engine stalling while driving. Before replacement we always measure the pressure: the same symptoms are caused by a clogged filter, a faulty relay, or a poor ground connection, and there's no point replacing an expensive pump without measuring first. During replacement we clean deposits out of the tank and inspect the sock filter — dirt in the tank is usually exactly what kills the pump, so skipping this step means the same failure happens again. After installation we check the pressure in different modes and the tightness of the connections.
