Symptoms
- Fluctuating idle, jerking when lifting off the gas, limp mode with a rev limit.
What's included
- The unit is replaced when its shaft is worn, the drive mechanism is damaged, the built-in position sensor has failed, or the electric drive motor cannot be repaired. Symptoms include unstable idle, jerks when lifting off the accelerator, limp mode with limited engine speed, and throttle-position faults. Before replacement, we check whether cleaning and adaptation solve the issue: in many cases the throttle body is sound and carbon deposits are the cause. After fitting a new unit, adaptation is mandatory; without it the control unit uses the old reference values.
Additional checks
- Throttle-position fault codes — checked in the control unit memory
- Throttle shaft and drive mechanism — inspected for wear and damage
- Electric drive motor — assessed for repairability
Why it matters
The throttle body is often fine and carbon buildup is the real culprit, so cleaning and adaptation are tried before replacement. Adaptation is mandatory after fitting a new unit.
More details
The throttle body meters the air entering the engine. The unit is replaced for a worn shaft, a broken drive mechanism, or a faulty built-in position sensor or electric actuator motor that can't be repaired. The symptoms are a fluctuating idle, jerking when releasing the throttle, limp mode with limited RPM, and throttle position fault codes. Before replacing it we check whether cleaning and adaptation solve the problem: in a good share of cases the throttle body itself is fine and carbon buildup is to blame. After installing a new unit we always perform adaptation — without it the control unit keeps using its old reference values.
