Throttle body adaptation

Adaptation teaches the control unit the throttle body's new position.

Throttle body adaptation
Book a Diagnostic

Symptoms

  • Elevated or fluctuating idle and uneven acceleration after cleaning or replacing the throttle body.

What's included

  1. The procedure is needed after cleaning or replacing the unit, resetting the control unit memory, disconnecting the battery on certain models, or replacing intake gaskets. Without it, the engine may hold excessive or unstable idle speed and accelerate unevenly, making it seem as though cleaning made the problem worse. We perform adaptation with a scanner according to the manufacturer's procedure, observing the required conditions: a warmed-up engine, electrical consumers switched off, and the specified sequence of actions. Afterwards, we check idle operation and response when the accelerator is released, and confirm that no fault codes remain in memory.

Additional checks

  • Procedure conditions — warmed-up engine, electrical consumers switched off
  • Idle and throttle-release response — checked after adaptation
  • Control unit memory — checked for remaining fault codes

Why it matters

Without adaptation the engine holds an elevated idle, and the owner assumes the cleaning made things worse — when the real cause is simply the missing relearn. It's done with a scan tool per the maker's procedure.

More details

Adaptation is teaching the control unit the throttle's new position. The procedure is needed after cleaning or replacing the unit, after clearing the control unit's memory, after disconnecting the battery on some models, and after replacing intake gaskets. Without it, the engine holds an elevated or fluctuating idle and acceleration becomes uneven — and the owner ends up thinking the cleaning "made things worse." We perform adaptation with a scanner following the manufacturer's procedure, under the required conditions: a warmed-up engine, all electrical consumers switched off, and a specific sequence of steps. After the procedure we check the idle and the car's behavior when releasing the throttle, and confirm no fault codes remain in memory.
