Symptoms

  • Coolant seeping from the weep hole, a whine or play in the pump shaft, temperature swings.

What's included

  1. A faulty pump quickly causes overheating, which can damage the head gasket or warp the cylinder head. Signs include coolant leaking from the drain hole, shaft noise or play, fluctuating temperature and overheating in traffic. On engines where the timing belt drives the pump, we recommend replacing both together: access is already available, and a later pump failure means repeating the dismantling and its cost. Afterwards, we fill with fresh antifreeze, remove air locks and pressure-test the system. Water-pump replacement in Kyiv is best combined with timing-system servicing when the pump is belt-driven.

Additional checks

  • Absence of air locks in the cooling system after refilling antifreeze
  • Cooling-system tightness under pressure

Why it matters

A failing pump quickly leads to overheating, and overheating to a blown head gasket or a warped head. If the timing belt drives the pump, it's replaced along with it while access is already open.

More details

The water pump circulates coolant through the engine and radiator. Its failure quickly leads to overheating, and overheating leads to a blown head gasket or a warped head. Signs include coolant leaking from the weep hole, a hum or play in the shaft, fluctuating temperature, and overheating in traffic. On engines where the timing belt drives the pump, we always recommend replacing it together with the belt: access is already open, and if the pump fails a year later that means disassembling everything again for the same money. After replacement we fill with new coolant, bleed the air pockets, and pressure-test the system. We recommend replacing the water pump in Kyiv together with timing belt service whenever the belt drives it.
