Longitudinal & lateral arm replacement

Trailing and transverse arms determine the wheel’s position relative to the body.

Symptoms

  • The car wanders on a straight road, and wheel angles don't hold after an alignment.
  • Tires wear at an angle.

What's included

  1. A multi-link suspension has several on each side, and wear in even one disrupts the geometry: the vehicle wanders on straight roads, alignment does not hold its settings and tyres wear at an angle. We test every arm separately on a play detector and check for deformation against the opposite side. Where possible, we replace only the arms that actually need attention rather than the entire set. Wheel alignment is mandatory afterwards, otherwise the new parts will operate incorrectly.

Additional checks

  • Checking the arms for deformation
  • Wheel alignment after the repair

Why it matters

On a multi-link suspension, wear in even one arm throws off the whole geometry. Each arm is assessed separately and compared with the opposite side.

More details

Trailing and lateral control arms set the position of the wheel relative to the body. Multi-link suspensions have several arms on each side, and wear on even one of them throws off the whole geometry: the car starts to “wander” in a straight line, the angles won't hold after an alignment, and the tires wear on an angle. We diagnose each arm separately on a play detector and check them for deformation, comparing with the opposite side. Wherever possible we limit replacement to the arms that genuinely need it, rather than replacing the whole set. After the repair a wheel alignment is mandatory — without it, the new parts will start working incorrectly.
