Intercooler replacement
An intercooler cools air compressed by the turbocharger; the colder it is, the denser it is and the more oxygen reaches the cylinders.
Symptoms
- Boost pressure drops, the engine loses power, faults appear and it enters limp mode.
What's included
- Damage to the core, a cracked tank or leaking hoses lowers boost pressure, so the engine loses power, faults appear and limp mode may follow. Another common problem is oil in the intercooler from a faulty turbocharger or the crankcase-ventilation system; then replacement alone is not enough and the source must be eliminated. We pressure-test the charge-air path, assess hoses and clamps, and flush oil deposits from the system during replacement.
Additional checks
- Hoses and clamps condition
- System flushed of oil deposits during replacement
Why it matters
Oil in the intercooler gets there from a failing turbo or crankcase ventilation — simply replacing the part isn't enough without fixing the source. The tract is pressure-tested for leaks.
More details
The intercooler cools the air compressed by the turbo — the colder it is, the denser it is and the more oxygen reaches the cylinders. If the core is damaged, the tank cracks, or the hoses leak, boost pressure drops: the engine loses power, and fault codes and limp mode appear. Another common problem is oil in the intercooler, getting there from a faulty turbo or through the crankcase ventilation system; in that case a simple replacement isn't enough — the source has to be fixed. We pressure-test the tract for leaks, assess the condition of the hoses and clamps, and flush the system of oil deposits during replacement.
