Ride height sensor replacement
A body-level sensor tells the control unit the height at each corner of the vehicle.
Symptoms
- The suspension lifts one side, drops the other, or goes into a fault mode altogether.
What's included
- When it fails or its linkage breaks, the system receives false data: the suspension raises one side, lowers the other, or enters limp mode altogether. The sensors are mounted underneath, so dirt, road chemicals and impacts affect them. We read every sensor with a scanner and compare its reading with the actual height; this identifies the one reporting incorrectly instead of replacing all four. After replacement, we always calibrate the system, otherwise the new sensor will operate with the old reference values.
Additional checks
- Sensor linkage condition
- System calibration after replacement
Why it matters
The sensors sit low on the car, so dirt, road salt, and impacts take a toll. Each one's reading is checked against actual height, pinpointing the faulty one instead of replacing all four.
More details
The body height sensor tells the control unit the height of each corner of the car. When it fails or its linkage rod breaks off, the system gets incorrect data: the suspension raises one side, lowers the other, or goes into limp mode entirely. The sensors sit low on the car, so they suffer from dirt, road salt, and impacts. We read out each sensor's value with a scanner and compare it with the actual height — this lets us pinpoint exactly which one is lying, instead of replacing all four. After replacement we always perform a system calibration, otherwise the new sensor will operate using the old reference values.
