Fuel system diagnostics
Fuel-system diagnostics determines whether the engine receives the required amount of fuel at the required pressure and whether it is atomised correctly.
Symptoms
- Hard starting, hesitation, jerking, higher fuel consumption, or black smoke.
What's included
- We measure rail pressure in different operating modes, check pump output, filter condition, pressure-regulator operation and injector tightness, and review live fuel corrections; they show whether the control unit is compensating for a lean or rich mixture. The most common reasons for visiting us are difficult starting, hesitation, jerks, increased consumption and black smoke. Diesel equipment has a separate service area with bench testing.
Additional checks
- Rail pressure across different engine operating modes
- Fuel pump output
- Fuel filter condition
- Injector tightness
Why it matters
Live fuel-trim data shows whether the control unit is compensating for a lean or rich mixture. Diesel equipment has a separate bench-testing track.
More details
Fuel system diagnostics answers the question of whether the engine is getting the right amount of fuel at the right pressure and whether it's being sprayed correctly. We measure rail pressure in different modes, check pump output, filter condition, pressure regulator operation, and injector sealing, and we also look at the fuel trims in the live data — they show whether the control unit is compensating for a lean or rich mixture. The symptoms customers most often come to us with are hard starting, hesitation, jerking, increased consumption, and black smoke. For diesel fuel equipment we have a separate service with bench testing.
